Two weeks ago my car was stranded on the side of the road again. Rather than focus on that, what I took from that day was a glimpse of someone’s life while I was waiting for my car to cool down, off of a highway exit, on the other side of a cyclone fence from a Dairy Queen.
A DQ worker, presumably 20-something on a break, walks out to her car parked behind the restaurant’s drive thru. Average looking in every way possible. She gets in the driver’s seat, rolls down the window, lights up a cigarette, turns on Eminem and Rihanna’s domestic violence glorifying song “Love the Way You Lie” as loud as she can, and then drapes a black t-shirt that says something that starts with “FUCK YOU…” over the steering wheel.
Sometimes, that’s all you need to know.
